April 21: I disagreed that __ and others were trying to silence you.

May 3: You have an experience with these issues she doesn’t, a view that is really experienced. I’m sorry about what I said wrt to women of color bloggers and silence…’cause agree with you all the time or not, you’re voice is important and something not often heard.

Oh and the affirmations! Six out of many:

May 3: I could not agree with you more. I’m 27 and I find little in common with feminists around my age. I read that post on Feministe you referred to and had to do a double-take - like I am reading a feminist blog, right? Many of the blogs of third/fourth gen feminists go out of their way to belittle Hilary Clinton (okay, I’m not saying you have to vote for the woman, but do you have to actually work so hard against the first serious female candidate?) Many blogs have recently posted about the Sean Bell (sp?) case. How are male cops shooting at male suspects a feminist issue? Oh, intersectional identity, right. It is all very disheartening.

May 3: I wanted to say that I’m happy I found your blog. I have always felt in a similar way to you, but I couldn’t believe I was the only one. I couldn’t NOT see religion, particularly the Islam, as a system of oppression. I though it was my fault for being intolerant, and maybe it is to some extent. All this talk of multiculturalism clouds the injustices that women have to put up with because, “it’s their religion”. Just one thing. I am a “second wave”-er, but I am of third wave age. I suspect you and I are roughly of the same age. So not all women your age have lost their way :)

May 2: I’m delighted to have found you! Our backgrounds are obviously different, but I was raised in the US as a Christian fundamentalist, and so many of your thoughts resonate with mine; feminism saved my life. I hope your family is ultimately able to accept you as mine was.

May 2: What a great way to put it. Even though the religion/race/patriarchy/country may change, oppressing women consists of many of the same methods. That theme is what unites feminists all over the world, the desire to have control over their bodies, minds, and sexuality.

April 27: “This is another sneaky technique to put women last. This is yet another way to confuse women about themselves, about their place in the world, about their importance.” I am so glad you are not the ever-increasing line for the kool aid everyone seems to be drinking. AMAZING work here.

April 26: I’m Indian, but WoC who disagree with me always call me “white” — and, somehow, that label makes everyone ignore the zillions of references I’ve made to my culture. From hereon out, you’re going to be the only one on my blogroll.

I’ll keep adding!: This is certainly a welcome commentary. I have also been appalled at the free pass given the Islamic world. There have been women in Algeria found dead with their arms cut off, stoned to death from Kurdistand to Pakistan. These get a pass because of the Western Left’s solicitude for “Indiginous Culture” and stylistic opposition against “Western Cultural Imperialism”.
